“This is not just a problem for me. Thousands of women globally are suffering. The tape can be put in too tight, or positioned wrongly. The tape can twist or shrink, degrade and harbor bacteria. Problems have been reported up to 12 years after the operation,” said Kath.
“It can press against or cut into the bladder or cut into the urethra. It can damage nerves during insertion. For some women it means no more sex life or painful sex.
“The bladder can be perforated during insertion as this is a blind procedure. These pains feel like you are being cut with cheese wire and send out radiating nerve pain into the rest of your body. By the end of the day I am exhausted with pain.” Kath Sansom
